What is oat?

Oat is a kind of cereal grain. It is specifically seeds of Oat grass. The scientific name of Oat is Avena sativa. 

It is the source of fiber, phosphorus, Thiamine, Magnesium, and Zinc. 

Health Benefits: 

  • Oat contains soluble fiber beta-glucan reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease by lowering cholesterol levels. 
  • It prevents the rise of blood sugar hence controlling diabetes.
  • The fiber beta-glucan slows down digestion and helps the stomach to absorb all nutrients from the food. The fullness after eating the cereal oat helps for weight loss
  • And it also improves digestive health. 

Easy and Interesting Oat Recipes:

Oat is not meant to eat only traditionally. We can try new recipes and make our breakfasts more interesting with these recipes as follows.


Try Cranachan, a traditional Scottish Dessert. To make it whip the cream simply. Then toast the oats and soak them overnight in a drop of whisky. Also, chop some berries. Now assemble the ingredients cream, raspberries, toasted oats, and honey layer-wise. Use dessert glasses to assemble the dessert. 

Overnight Oats with Jam & coconut:

If you want a simple but delicious breakfast in the morning, try this recipe. First, take oats and combine them with milk in a large container. Then covering the mixture refrigerate for the whole night. Overnight, oats absorb all milk. Then layer it with jam. Strew some coconut on it. 

Oatmeal Cookies:

Perfect for munching any time, the oatmeal cookies are tasty and healthy. To make this cookie, at first take 2 tablespoons of powdered sugar, ½ cup of flour or atta, and 1/3 cup of chilled unsalted butter. Mix the butter well in atta. Then add cinnamon or vanilla essence to it. Next, add 60 grams of rolled-out oats and golden raisins. Now add cold milk with a spoon and mix it until it turns into dough. Shape it out and bake it to make cookies. 

Oat Pancakes:

The whole family together can enjoy oat pancakes. To prepare pancakes, first, take 1 ½ cup of ready-to-cook oats, and grind it in the grinder. Then add salt, baking soda, and cinnamon for taste. On the other hand mix milk, egg, and butter in a bowl. Mix the dry and wet mixture well. Greasing the pan with oil makes beautiful golden pancakes. Add topping of chocolate or maple syrup. 

Oat Upma:

You can try easy simple Indian recipes like oats Upma instead of Rawa Upma. All procedures of making up will be the same as Rawa Upma. You just only add rolled oats instead of Rawa.
